Financial Beginnings: The Basics of Money

Students will learn the basics of money, from who uses it and why, to its manufacture and design. A brief history of money and an overview of supply and demand are also included in this module, which is the first of four modules in the Financial Beginnings: Financial Footings curriculum. Key concepts covered in this module are: Money, Trading & Bartering, Producers, Consumers, Supply, Demand, and Supply & Demand. Girl Scout Juniors will complete the first steps toward earning their Savvy Shopper financial literacy badge.

Students will each receive a Student Guide booklet for the class.

Cost: Free

Registration Requirements: All girls participating as a Girl Scout in this activity must be registered Girl Scout members. If attending as a troop, all volunteers also need to be registered members and/or have completed and approved background checks. If non-registered individuals (adults or tags) are allowed to participate in this activity supplemental insurance is required. Use the Insurance Purchase Form to purchase insurance at least 3 weeks prior to the event. Completed forms can be emailed to programapprovals@gsksmo.org.
