Utilizing the new Girl Scouts Aquatics Center and Pool as an example, participants will walk through phases of the design process with the architect and landscape architect on the project. Working in groups, the participants will design their own solutions for the client while staying within the project parameters. The architect on the project will then present Helix’s final design and drawings to the group to illustrate these concepts in real world and professional application.

Kick-off Meeting (20 min)
Introductions to the Helix, Vireo Landscape Architecture, and Centric Construction teams. Tour the Helix office.

Section One: Site Review & Landscape Design (20 min)
Landscape architect will present for five minutes regarding the existing site and landscape needs for the project. Girls will break into three groups for a landscape breakout activity.

Section Two: Programming/Design  (20 min)
Project architect will present for five minutes regarding the programmatic needs for the project. Girls will break back out into their groups for a programming/architectural design breakout activity..

Section Three: Budget (20 min)
General Pre- Contractor Manager will lead in an exercise in budget constraints, participants will be informed the pricing came back from the contractor, and the project is designed over budget. They will be given a new “budget” in number of blocks they may use, but still must meet as many design requirements as possible.

Presenting and Q&A (20 min)
The three groups will present their final designs to the group, ensuring to explain design choices and the process of keeping the project in-budget.

The design team will then present their final design to the group, addressing the same challenges the groups faced when modeling their designs and take any questions.
