Lyric Opera of Kansas City: Final Dress Rehearsal for Rossini's THE BARBER OF SEVILLE
1 Handsome barber, 2 young lovers and – a chicken dream ballet?? Yup, just another night at the opera.
First, Girl Scout troops receive fun activities and information about THE BARBER OF SEVILLE before attending the final dress rehearsal of this rollicking Rossini comedy, updated to the 1960s. (Yoga and sitar music, anyone? Just wait!)
But the clever updates only enhance the story. The Count Almaviva has a problem. He’s very rich, and he wants to make sure the girl he marries loves HIM and not just his money. So, he’s donned the disguise of a poor student and sings outside the window of the girl of his dreams, the smart and sassy Rosina. But she’s not free to meet him because she’s always watched by her guardian, Doctor Bartolo. What are the young lovers to do?
Enter Figaro, the Barber of Seville. He’ll get the Count inside Dr. Bartolo’s house to see Rosina with the help of yet more clever disguises. But they’d better hurry up, because Doctor Bartolo wants to marry Rosina himself, and soon.
With tunes you’ll recognized and vocal fireworks aplenty, this is an ideal first opera OR a splendid new addition to your list of favorites. (We suggest you “collect” them all!)
