Spark Event: Professional Women Controllers – Air Traffic Controllers and Aviation Extravaganza! SOLD OUT
* SOLD OUT *
Girl Scouts should arrive at the Kansas City Enroute Air Traffic Control Center at 250 S. Rogers Rd, Olathe, KS 66062. Amy Magstadt, a Professional Women Air Traffic Controller, will meet the group at the guard shack and lead 12-15 girls on a tour of what Air Traffic Controllers and Air Traffic Aviation Engineers do for their jobs and what is required to have those jobs. First, there will be a briefing with questions on both jobs. Second, the Girl Scouts will have a chance to operate in the Technical Training Lab to experience hands on what equipment controllers use. Then, girls will sit with an Air Traffic Controller at the sector and listen to how they do their jobs. There may be a possible visit to the Center Weather Service Unit (workload permitting). Finally, there will be a question period for the girls to ask any remaining questions. The experience is designed to expose girls to a possible field of study and help them decide what careers they want to pursue after high school.
