 Equestrian Activities at Misty River

   Brownie     Junior     Cadette     Senior     Ambassador

Misty River resident lessonhorses are gentle and reliable. 2 indoor arenas, a classroom, shelter houses, trails, and camp area allow us to offer workshop learning year round. Our horse programs are for the beginning to advanced riders.

All clinics held on Saturday either:
8:00 am – 11:00 am or
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Minimum of 6 girls
Maximum of 12 girls

Required Dress:
Long Pants, Shoes or boots with heels (A few loaner boots are kept at the ranch.) No sneakers, sandals, flip flops, fashion boots, or waffle soles.Dress for the weather. If it’s cold, wear a coat. If gloves are worn, they must have a leather palm.
Helmets are mandatory and are provided.

Supervision: Trained and experienced instructors and assistant instructors lead instructional sessions and supervise on horseback.

The Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) (www.cha-ahse.org) safety standards are observed.

Troop adults supervise any activities before or after the riding session. Adults with troops may ride, provided there is available program space.

Getting to the Stable on Time: Plan on arriving at the stable about 10 minutes earlier than your scheduled time. The girls will be all wound up and will probably need the time to “hit” the latrine and get themselves settled before your starting time. (This also allows for wrong turns).

Cancellation Procedure & Policy: Sometimes we must cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, ie; weather If WE cancel, all efforts will be made to reschedule your group at a date and time convenient to you or a full refund will be made. If YOU cancel, deposit fees are refunded only if Misty River has been notified 30 days before the scheduled riding date. Riding sessions may be rescheduled based on available space. Groups who cancel fewer than 30 days before their reservation date and cannot reschedule, forfeit 100 % of their deposit fee. There is no deposit refund if fewer than 6 girls show for the session. (Or in the event 2 small groups are combined, if fewer than the committed number of girls attend than implied at the time of signing up.)

Note to Leader: The packet of information we send you will help your troop prepare for the horsemanship sessions. It will also help you identify program links to the horsemanship badges. If your troop wants to work on the badge, please check the requirements carefully. A program link does not necessarily complete a requirement or ensure proficiency. As with all Girl Scout badges, proficiency in knowledge and skill is required to earn the badge. The leader determines whether a girl has the knowledge and skills necessary to be considered proficient. As the troop leader, it is your responsibility to prepare the girls for their experience at Misty River. The program is designed to expand the girls knowledge on what they have learned in the troop setting so they can develop proficiency. Please spend time in your troop meetings helping the girls get ready. To simply show up without preparation does the girls, the program, and the Misty River Equestrian staff a great disservice.
