The American Red Cross has served the people of Kansas City and Western Missouri for more than 100 years.
Our mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. We provide response to disaster victims, emergency communications for military families, preparedness information, international tracing services, and training in first aid, CPR and water safety. We also collect and distribute life-saving blood products.

Registration Requirements: All girls participating as a Girl Scout in this activity must be registered Girl Scout members. If attending as a troop, all volunteers also need to be registered members and/or have completed and approved background checks. If non-registered individuals (adults or tags) are allowed to participate in this activity supplemental insurance is required. Use the Insurance Purchase Form to purchase insurance at least 3 weeks prior to the event. Completed forms can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.

The Pillowcase Project
The Pillowcase Project teaches children how to prepare for emergencies by packing essential items in a common household pillowcase. In addition, the program provides basic coping skills to be employed during stressful situations. The program vision is to create a generation of children who understand the science of hazards, are empowered to take action by practicing how to prepare for emergencies, and understand that by sharing what they have learned with family and friends, they can help create a prepared community.
The goals of the program include:
- Increase youth awareness of hazards and the importance of
- Build skills in hazard-specific protective actions to reduce the impact of emergencies on youth and their families
- Increase coping skills to manage emergencies and build resilience in youth
- Increase household preparedness levels
