Lakeside Nature Center

Lakeside Nature Center (LNC) is located in Swope Park, one of the largest urban parks in the United States. The mission of LNC is to provide educational and recreational activities focusing on environmental awareness and conservation of native plants and animals and their habitats. Registration Requirements: All girls participating as a Girl Scout in these activities must be registered Girl Scout members. If attending as a troop, all volunteers also need to be registered members and/or have completed and approved background checks. If non-registered individuals (adults or tags) are allowed to participate in this activity supplemental insurance is required. Use the Insurance Purchase Form to purchase insurance at least 3 weeks prior to the event. Completed forms can be emailed to programapprovals@gsksmo.org.

Nature Badge Workshops

Lakeside Nature Center Naturalists are eager to help your Girl Scouts explore native wildlife and habitats. Our unique programs are designed to encourage interest in nature and the environment. Come out to Lakeside Nature Center and discover in depth programming on the badges listed below. Each session includes opportunities to get outdoors, participate with hands-on activities and observation of wildlife. Workshops are available Tuesday-Sunday 10:00-4:00 with after school programs available Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday.  Run Time is 1 -1 ½ hours dependent on topic. A minimum of $60 per workshop is required. **Outdoor activities are weather dependent.

  • Daisy: Buddy Camper, Outdoor Art Maker, Between Earth and Sky Journey, 3 Cheers for Animals Journey

  • Brownie: Bugs, Cabin Camper, Hiker, Letterboxer, Outdoor Adventurer, Outdoor Art Creator

Archery and Geocacher Skill Building Badge Workshops

Archery and Geocaching take place at our neighboring facility Camp Lake of the Woods. This 360-acre park is located just east of the center and hosts hiking/biking trails and numerous opportunities to observe native wildlife.

Workshops are available Tuesday-Sunday 10:00-4:00 with after school programs available Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday.  Run time is 2 hours. A minimum of $70 per workshop is required. **Outdoor activities are weather dependent.
