LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Kansas City & SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium

SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium will transport you into an amazing underwater world! Come nose to nose with sharks and prepare for astonishingly close views of everything from humble starfish, seahorses and graceful rays. To get any closer you’d have to get wet!

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Kansas Citty offer hands-on learning across the curriculum, including science, mathematics, language arts, technology, and engineering design, while building and reinforcing collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving. Our center facilitates learning through interactive experiences to promote deeper engagement with the subject matter.

Location: 2475 Grand Blvd Kansas City, MO 64108. Parking is located in the Crown Center Mall parking garages.

Participate in one of our additional educational workshops listed below to receive a free Girl Scout patch!  Please note, Girl Scouts must participate in the full activity to be eligible to receive a patch.

Registration Requirements: All girls participating as a Girl Scout in these activities must be registered Girl Scout members. If attending as a troop, all volunteers also need to be registered members and/or have completed and approved background checks. If non-registered individuals (adults or tags) are allowed to participate in this activity supplemental insurance is required. Use the Insurance Purchase Form to purchase insurance at least 3 weeks prior to the event. Completed forms can be emailed to programapprovals@gsksmo.org.
 

Cost:
June (Girl Scout Month) -  $10 per Girl Scout, $12 per adult (no minimum group number for this promotional rate). Workshops are $3 per Girl Scout and must be booked 2 weeks in advance with a group of 15 or more.

May, July, August - minimum 15 people per group for discount
$10 per Girl Scout, $3 per Girl Scout for additional educational workshop, $12 per adult, 1 adult free for every 5 paid Girl Scouts

LEGOLAND® Girl Scout Educational Workshops

Spinning Tops (Daisy)

In this exciting workshop Girl Scouts build LEGO® spinning tops, collect data on whose design spins the longest, while also learning about the forces that affect their tops performance.

Spin the Gears (Brownie)
Gears, gears, gears! In this workshop Girl Scouts will build a series of models and experiment with gears exploring the difference between drive vs. driven gears, clockwise vs. counterclockwise, and discovering the concepts of effort and force.

Scene Builders (Daisy, Brownie, Junior)
In this workshop, students will build an important scene from a story that they have read or a mind-bopping original story that they create. They will then get to share how they created the setting, plot, staging, and more through LEGO® bricks.

Community Planner (Brownie, Junior)
We need your mini-builders to help us create a super-mega-awesome community! Students will explore communities and the needs of citizens. While creating an amazing structure of their own, they will join forces to piece together a totally awesome LEGO® community!

Workshops will be scheduled in 45 minute increments.

 


Sea Life Girl Scout Educational Workshops

Home Sweet Home: Habitats (Daisy)
Girl Scouts will learn what is required of a habitat to make a good home for an animal. Explore the need for food, water, shelter, air, and space/territory in aquatic habitats.

Animal Adaptations: Adaptations (Daisy and Brownie)
Girl Scouts will learn how animals adapt to thrive in a watery world. Explore unique animal characteristics such as scales, fins, lateral lines of fish, and electrical reception, which can enable animals to be successful in water.

What’s for Lunch: Food Chains (Junior)
Dive into what and how sea creatures eat, along with what eats them! Explore the complexities of ocean food chains, and predator/prey relationships.

Marine Science Careers (Cadette-Ambassador)
Take a deeper look into career paths and job opportunities within the aquarium and zoo industry, and learn how having a marine science career can impact conservation and wildlife efforts.

Workshops will be scheduled in 45 minute increments.
