Lyric Opera

Our Mission: To make Lyric Opera of Kansas City indispensable to the public through:

  • Transformational opera experiences and
  • Broad service which captures the hearts and minds of our communities

Registration Requirements: All girls participating as a Girl Scout in this activity must be registered Girl Scout members. If attending as a troop, all volunteers also need to be registered members and/or have completed and approved background checks. If non-registered individuals (adults or tags) are allowed to participate in this activity supplemental insurance is required. Use the Insurance Purchase Form to purchase insurance at least 3 weeks prior to the event. Completed forms can be emailed to programapprovals@gsksmo.org.

Careers in Opera, Behind the Scenes

Singers and orchestra members and the conductor are the most visible members of any production, but it takes a huge variety of skills and talents to create an opera.  From carpentry to wig making, stage management to surtitles, lighting design to marketing, we’ll pull back the curtain and show you what it takes to make an opera.  A Powerpoint presentation is included in this 40-minute program featuring a member of the opera’s Production department and an education team member.

Opera Story Time

 Daisy   Brownie   Junior

A Lyric Opera of Kansas City Artist presents a story set in the world of opera during this engaging and enjoyable 30-minute session. Younger groups don costume pieces and imagine they are the leading characters. Older students can request the Harriet Tubman Storytime, and learn about this American heroine and hear music like “Follow the Drinking Gourd”.
