Ten Thousand Villages

Ten Thousand Villages Overland Park is a fair trade retailer. We create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to our markets through long-term fair trading relationships. Ten Thousand Villages Overland Park is a local, nonprofit organization committed to promoting intercultural understanding by educating volunteers, customers and the Kansas City metropolitan community about fair trade artisans and farmers, their cultures, and the opportunities and challenges they face.

YOU SCHEDULE IT! OPPORTUNITIES:

#LiveLifeFair

 Brownie   Junior   Cadette   Senior   Ambassador

You have the power to choose what you buy, and every fair trade purchase makes an impact on a person, a community, and a landscape. Making the choice to purchase conscientiously is what it means to #LiveLifeFair.

Girls will explore what it means to #LiveLifeFair through an age-appropriate, interactive scavenger hunt of our fair trade products and a closer look at the lives of the artisans and farmers who create them.

#LiveLifeFair programs run approximately 1½ hours and are typically scheduled Thursday–Saturday, January–October. (We also try to offer programming on weekday school holidays that coincide with the Shawnee Mission School District calendar.)

Girls will receive an adorable patch and a sample of fair trade chocolate!

If your troop is working on their Cadette Savvy Shopper badge or Senior Textile Artist badge please let us know when you register. We can adapt the workshop to help you complete some steps in those badges.

Cost: #LiveLifeFair is offered at no cost but a deposit of $25 is required to schedule your workshop. This deposit will be refunded after the workshop. No-shows and cancellations will not receive a refund.

Registration Requirements:  All girls participating as a Girl Scout in this activity must be registered Girl Scout members. If attending as a troop, all volunteers also need to be registered members and/or have completed and approved background checks. If non-registered individuals (adults or tags) are allowed to participate in this activity supplemental insurance is required. Use the Insurance Purchase Form to purchase insurance at least 3 weeks prior to the event. Completed forms can be emailed to programapprovals@gsksmo.org.
