Urban Hikes Kansas City take groups on urban hikes to learn about the history of Kansas City, see beautiful art and historical buildings and get exercise!

Daisy Petal/Badge Hike

 Daisy

This 1-2 mile adventure can be catered to any Daisy petal or can just be a fun adventure. It starts inside our historic Union Station. We check out the trains and then cross into the Crossroads to experience interactive art and weave through alleyways with colorful murals. We hop on the KC Streetcar if the troop wants to and even can stop for ice cream.  Each hike will be a little different depending on the focus of the petal or badge the girls are earning. 

Hike length is 1-2  hours.

Girls can also complete the For the Love of Murals patch program on the hike. Be sure to print out and bring the mural bingo sheet! The patch is not provided on the hike and can be purchased by following the instructions on the mural bingo sheet.

Additional info: Please wear walking shoes and bring water. Bring $5/person for ice cream (optional).

Cost per person: $15.90 (minimum of 10 and maximum of 20 people, girls and adults combined)

Brownie Outdoor Art Creator Hike

This 3-mile adventure starts inside our historic Union Station. We check out the trains and then cross into the Crossroads to interactive art and weave through alley ways with colorful murals. We hop on the KC Streetcar to River Market and check out a native butterfly mural and cross over to the Town of KS Bridge filled with “love locks”. We make a piece of art using things we find outdoors. We’ll learn a little history of Kansas City and have fun!

We will complete steps 1, 2, 3 & 4 of the Brownie Outdoor Art Creator Badge.

Girls can also complete the For the Love of Murals patch program on the hike. Be sure to print out and bring the mural bingo sheet! The patch is not provided on the hike and can be purchased by following the instructions on the mural bingo sheet.

The hike is 3 hours and 3 miles long.

COVID-19 safety precautions: There is a maximum registration of 20 people per hike (girls and adults combined).

Junior Outdoor Art Explorer Hike

In this urban hike designed for Junior Girl Scouts, we’ll complete 4 of the 5 steps for the Outdoor Art Explorer Badge. After learning a bit about Union Station, we’ll jump on the KC Streetcar and get off at the Kauffman Stop and walk east. In the meantime, we’ll be observing the large and small buildings around us and each girl will take some pictures of structures they like and we’ll discuss what makes buildings work well with nature (badge step 4) We’ll see impressive murals and walk through the ever changing Art Alley (badge step 1) After seeing colorful street art, we’ll take some time for each girl to draw art that she’d like to see in her community (badge step 5). While we are waiting for the KC Streetcar to take us back to our starting place, we’ll make a human rainstorm (badge step 3). Badge not included in the hike.

We will complete steps 1, 3, 4 & 5 of the Junior Outdoor Art Explorer Badge. Girls can also complete steps 1 & 2 in the Junior Trail Adventure Badge.

Mural Hike

  Cadette     Senior   Ambassador

Starting point, Union Station. After Union Station we'll jump on the KC Streetcar to go north. We get off at 16th and Main and make our way to the murals! We'll see over 25 colorful murals that were painted in September during the Spray See Mo Mural Festival in addition to learning about the artists. We trek through Art Alley. We'll urban hike from the East Crossroads to the Westside and will take time to discuss Scribe's KC Mural depicting many famous Kansas Citians. This hike is interesting for preteens and adults alike. It's also full of photo opps in front of the striking murals we'll see. Halfway through the hike we can stop for a smoothie at Tropicana (price of drinks not included in hike). This hike is 4 miles and lasts 3 hours.

Cadettes and Seniors working on their Art in the Outdoors Badge can complete step 1. Cadettes working on their Comic Artist Badge can complete step 2.
