The Discovery Center's 15,708 sq. ft. building is nestled within 4.5 wooded acres of Topeka's Gage Park, providing numerous opportunities for outdoor exploration and discovery. Guests of the Discovery Center can learn and play in a safe and fun educational environment.

Registration Requirements:  All girls participating as a Girl Scout in these activities must be registered Girl Scout members. If attending as a troop, all volunteers also need to be registered members and/or have completed and approved background checks. If non-registered individuals (adults or tags) are allowed to participate in this activity supplemental insurance is required. Use the Insurance Purchase Form to purchase insurance at least 3 weeks prior to the event. Completed forms can be emailed to programapprovals@gsksmo.org.

Need help earning a badge? Private Girl Scout Badge Programs allow you to pick a day that works best for your troop(s). the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center is excited to work with your Girl Scouts on the following badges and journeys:

  • Inventor (Brownie Badge)
  • Home Scientist (Brownie Badge)
  • Water Water Everywhere (Brownie Wonders of Water Journey)
  • Money Matters (Brownie Badge)
  • Detective (Junior Badge)

Each workshop includes 1.5 hours of programming geared towards your topic and supplies are included.

Additional Information:

  • Girl Scouts are expected to keep Girl Scout approved ratios.
  • Programs must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance and dates available are determined by staff availability.
  • All badge requirements may not be met.  Program is designed to help with the majority of the badge requirements. Troop Leaders will ensure girls complete the badge work and provide them with the badge.
  • All payments must be made at least seven business days prior to the scheduled overnight.
  • There are no refunds.

Journey Connections: Wonders of Water


Snore & Explore Overnight

Private Snore & Explore Overnights allow you to choose a date that works best for your troop. All Snore & Explore overnights include a program, late night pizza, light continental breakfast and exhibit exploration time and run from 6:30pm – 8:30am. Programs are available in the following areas:

  • Who Dunnit?!  Using science experiments help KCDC solve a mystery!  (Juniors)
  • Do the Dome!  Designing geodesic shapes and fun! (Daisies and Brownies)
  • Water Water Everywhere! Experience what different living situations around the world are like in relation to access to water. (Brownies and Juniors)
  • Build, Roll, Engineer! Design a structure to move a wooden ball with a team! (Daisies, Brownies)
  • Technology Time! Explore coding using Dash and Colby the mouse robots! (Daisies, Brownies, & Juniors)

Cost Per Girl: $35
Cost Per Adult:
Troop Leaders are free. Additional adults $12.50.

This activity is classified as higher risk or includes an overnight and therefore requires an Activity and Trip Application. Please complete this form at least 6 weeks prior to the participation in this activity.
