The NinetyNines is the international organization of women pilots that promotes advancement of aviation through education, scholarships, and mutual support while honoring our unique history and sharing our passion for flight. Established in 1929 by 99 women pilots, the members of the NinetyNines, Inc, are represented in all areas of aviation today. To quote Ameila Earhart, fly “for the fun of it."

Members of this prestigious organization are excited to offer aviation seminars for Girl Scouts in our council (Juniors-Ambassadors). The following applies to all seminars options listed below:

Location: A local airport, troop meeting site, or other site as mutually agreed upon

Cost: Suggested donation of $20 per event (not per girl)

Registration Requirements:  All girls participating as a Girl Scout in these activities must be registered Girl Scout members. If attending as a troop, all volunteers also need to be registered members and/or have completed and approved background checks. If non-registered individuals (adults or tags) are allowed to participate in this activity supplemental insurance is required. Use the Insurance Purchase Form to purchase insurance at least 3 weeks prior to the event. Completed forms can be emailed to programapprovals@gsksmo.org.

SEMINAR OPTIONS:

Navigate the Skies

 Junior   Cadette   Senior   Ambassador

Girl Scouts will receive copies of actual aviation maps and will learn how to interpret the information that is available on these maps. We will then plan a flight, determine how long it will take and how much fuel it will require.  Recommend a minimum of one hour and maximum of two hours for this seminar. This is a great hands-on activity for girls with working (for work, or pleasure) female pilots! A perfect event for girls to ask women any questions they may have about their careers and flying!

Communicate like a Professional Pilot

 Junior   Cadette   Senior   Ambassador

Girl Scouts will learn the lessons over the phonetic alphabet and practice spelling names, etc using this alphabet.  A discussion regarding proper aviation terminology, shorthand, and means of communication will also take place. This is a great hands-on activity for girls with working (for work, or pleasure) female pilots! A perfect event for girls to ask women any questions they may have about their careers and flying!

You Don’t Have to be a Pilot to Work in Aviation

 Junior   Cadette   Senior   Ambassador

There are many ways to work in aviation for pilots and non-pilots. We will explore the many options available and discuss what education is required for each field. This is a perfect event for those girls wanting to enter the aviation field in any capacity. Girl Scouts should be ready to come with their questions!

The Many Parts of an Airplane

 Junior   Cadette   Senior   Ambassador

Girl Scouts will learn the names, locations and functions of the main parts of an airplane. Along with women pilots, girls will have the opportunity to see and touch a real airplane to better understand the parts and how they work. Participants will also get to know the “standard six pack” which is the standard six navigation instruments that are installed on all airplanes. This is a great hands-on activity for girls with working (for work, or pleasure) female pilots! A perfect event for girls to ask women any questions they may have about their careers and flying!

*A local airport is the best choice of location for this seminar

Weather and How it Affects Flight

 Junior   Cadette   Senior   Ambassador

Discussions will center on the various effects of weather (ie: temperature, wind, precipitation, pressure systems) and how each effects the performance of an airplane and the effect each has on the ability of a pilot to fly an airplane. his is a great hands-on activity for girls with working (for work, or pleasure) female pilots! A perfect event for girls to ask women any questions they may have about their careers and flying!
