Wayside Waifs is committed to finding homes for all adoptable pets. Wayside is the largest pet adoption campus in Kansas City, placing over 5,400 animals each year in loving forever homes. Wayside does not euthanize adoptable animals, and there are no time limits for animals in our care. Only animals suffering from significant medical issues or those that pose a danger are humanely euthanized.

Wayside Waifs provides a variety of free workshops and service projects for troops. Many of the workshops can tie to the Journeys. A highlight of workshops is below. See the full list of available programs at their website.

Activating Em-PAW-thy: Exploring Similarities between Pets and People

 Daisy  Brownie   Junior   Cadette

Students identify the needs and connect with the feelings that people and animals have in common. The lesson helps students better understand what animals need to be happy and healthy. Students will leave the session with greater understanding of empathy and increased motivation to care for their family pets and all living things. This is a great tie-in with the Daisy 5 Flowers, 4 Stories, 3 Cheers for Animals Journey.
