Heartland Overlook Preserve (9106 Chestnut Ave, Kansas City, MO 64132)

Join Girl Scouts and Heartland Conservation Alliance for a Service Saturday full of outdoor adventure and hands-on conservation! Led by HCA’s Conservation Land Steward and Missouri Master Naturalist Christian Holderby, this Woodland Restoration Day will engage girls in real-world environmental work while learning about native species, invasive plants, and the ecology of the beautiful Blue River.

What to Expect:

  • Cadettes aged 12 and above, Seniors, and Ambassadors will participate in honeysuckle removal, helping to restore the 40-acre oak-hickory woodland. They'll learn about invasive species and land stewardship, then roll up their sleeves for meaningful action.
  • Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, and Cadettes aged 11 will participate in a guided hike and separate conservation activity designed to be fun, age-appropriate, and impactful.

This is NOT a drop-off event. Troops are responsible for maintaining the required ratio. Girl Scouts must be accompanied by an adult throughout the entire workshop. Adults do not need to register or pay.

All participants, including adults, are required to complete HCA’s Volunteer Waiver. Waivers for minors must be signed by a parent or guardian and submitted either electronically or in person at the event. This will be sent in the confirmation email a week prior to the event.

What to Bring:

  • Full water bottle
  • Healthy snacks
  • Work gloves (required, size appropriate)
  • Closed-toed shoes (required)
  • Long pants and socks
  • Sunscreen, bug spray, and weather-appropriate clothing

Note: There may be no permanent restrooms on-site. Please plan accordingly.
