Change the world, Girl Scout!

Gold Award Girl Scouts are rock stars, role models, and real-life heroes. How do they do it? Using everything they’ve learned as a Girl Scout to solve a problem in their community or make a lasting change in their world.

Seniors and Ambassadors who want to go for the Gold Award build teams of trusted adults, peers and leaders in their communities who guide them through challenges and support their success.

Nothing beats that feeling of seeing real, lasting and sustainable change and knowing it was you who made it happen. It changes the way you see your place in the world—and how the world sees you.

You can become a Gold Award Girl Scout if you:

Are in ninth, tenth, eleventh or twelfth grade
Are a registered Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador
Have earned the Girl Scout Silver Award or completed one Senior or Ambassador Leadership Award.
Attend an optional Gold Award Info Session.

How to Earn the Girl Scout Gold Award

Complete your Gold Award training, sign up now.
Find an issue in your community or the world that you care about.

Learn everything you can about that issue through research and trusted sources.
Form a team by identifying experts and people in your community who could help you.
Think about the root cause of an issue, then make a plan of how you could tackle it.
Submit your project proposal to our GSKSMO council for approval.
Lead your team and carry out your plan.
Reflect on the change you’ve created in your community and the world, share your story, and inspire others to make a difference, too.

STOP: If planning a Gold Award project on a camp property, please follow these steps toggle arrow

Contact campdept@gsksmo.org to discuss your project idea, timeframe, and options.
After discussing your project with our Camps Department, submit a Highest Award – Camp Project Request Form.

After you approve your camp project from the Camp Department, please continue your Project Proposal.

Create a profile and log into GSUSA’s web-based App GoGold. Work through the modules that assemble your Project Proposal, then submit it to the Council.

Present Your Project Proposal for Approval toggle arrow

You will be invited to present your project proposal to a Gold Award Mentor and a council representative via Teams at a date and time you schedule.
Come prepared to confidently share the most significant aspects of your project. A presentation may be helpful for guiding your discussion but is not required.
Once approved, lead your team to carry out your plan and conduct check-ins with your Gold Award mentor.
As you are in action on your project, take many photos (you will need those for the celebration portion).

Submit Your Final Report toggle arrow

Log into GoGold and complete your Final Report.
Once submitted, schedule a final interview with your appointed Gold Award Mentor and reflect on the change you’ve made in your community and the world.

This special ceremony honors each Gold Award Girl Scout in the 2025-2026 class and celebrates the legacy of this prestigious achievement. All Girl Scouts, alums, family members, and supporters are welcome to attend. For questions, contact customercare@gsksmo.org.
